Aloy Ejimakor, One of the legal representatives of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has urged President Buhari to free Kanu if he meant his apology to Nigerians.
This follows after a nationwide apology from President Muhammadu Buhari regarding anyone whose 8-year administration caused pain.
In response, the IPOB lawyer called upon the president to demonstrate sincerity of his apology to Nigerians by releasing his client from custody.
Ejimakor, stated that Buhari’s approach to “self-determination” resulted in extrajudicial killings, detentions, torture, and a notorious extraordinary rendition.
“Dear @MBuhari: Your policy on self determination led to extrajudicial killings, detentions, torture & an infamous extraordinary rendition. Prove that your apology is genuine by freeing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu & all detained on account of self determination. It’s your legacy!” Ejimakor on his Twitter handle said.

Recall that Kanu has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, following his arrest in Kenya and subsequent return to Nigeria to face trial on charges of treasonable felony and terrorism.
Despite the Nigerian Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and release Kanu in October 2022, the Nigerian government contested the ruling and appealed the case to the Supreme Court, leaving Kanu still in detention.
