A gang of hoodlums dressed in black attire on Friday killed three workers of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency using machetes, near the popular Ariaria International Market, Aba, using machetes, daggers and axes.
The ASEPA staff were working at SAMEC Junction by Faulks Road when they were attacked by the hoodlums who ran away after their dastardly act.
While confirming the attack, the spokesperson for Abia Police Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, said the assailants, who were dressed in black attire, carried out the attack around 1 pm.
“The suspected cultists inflicted multiple injuries on their victims, using machetes, daggers and axes.
“The multiple injuries left the three men dead, including one identified as Stanley Ejike and others yet to be identified,” he said.
He further said that the assailants immediately fled the scene before a police team could arrive at the place.
Ogbonna said that the police later evacuated the bodies to the mortuary, adding that investigations had commenced.
He said that no arrest had yet been made in connection with the incident.
He appealed to residents of the commercial city with valuable information that could lead to tracking the suspects to assist the police to enable them to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
The command’s spokesman condemned the killing for whatever motive might be behind it.
According to him, no person had the right to take the life of his fellow citizen under any guise.
He admonished Nigerians working in sensitive sectors of the economy to be discrete in carrying our their duties, especially now that tempers are high due to the economic hardship.
He opined that applying discretion could help to save people from unnecessary attacks and killings. (NAN)
