Host communities of the Nigerian Breweries PLC, has through the Foundation for Environmental Rights Advocacy and Development, FENRAD, alert the general public of a lingering case of environmental abuse by the (company’s) plant in Aba
The two communities: Ogbor Ancient Kingdom and Eziama Amahia Autonomous Community both of Aba North Local Government Area in Abia State, registered their anger through FENRAD.
The communities showed how untreated wastewater discharge to their environment by the Nigerian Breweries PLC has caused lots of harm to their everyday lives.
The communities said it had in several times engaged the company to do the needful through FENRAD, according to documents made available to ABACITYBLOG.
The host communities which took FENRAD around the affected areas, showed how Nigerian Breweries allegedly discharged untreated wastewaters which has caused environmental pollution in the area.
In a copy of litigation made available to ABACITYBLOG, the two host communities demands the company to pay the sum of N8,000,000,000,00 (Eight Billion Naira) only, over damages done to the communities.
In the letter dated 16th June, 2019, the communities claim that NB discharges effluent water and other dangerous chemicals including waste into “IYI AZA Ogbor” otherwise known as “WATERSIDE” or Aba River.
According to the community, “as only natural source of water, it’s dangerous to their health for the company to continue discharging its waste into the river”.
