After spirited efforts and intense lobbying by Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the House of Reps member representing Bende Federal Constituency, work has finally commenced on the Umuahia/Bende and Etitiulo/Itumbauzo roads which had hitherto suffered from years of neglect and abandonment to the detriment of communities in the affected areas.
DrumAfrica was on sight to confirm the report and met ecstatic indigenes of the various communities in Bende and Itumbauzo who were full of praise for their representative.
Describing the commencement of work on the two roads as the fruits of an arduous but worthwhile journey, Hon. Kalu recalled the deplorable state of the roads when he assumed office in 2019, noting that he was dutybound to make the roads his priority due to the suffering of his people.
He seized the opportunity to thank President Muhammadu Buhari; the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu; the Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr. Orji Kalu; the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; the Honourable Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Dr. Uche Ogah; his colleagues in the House, Hon. Bichi, Chairman Works Committee and Hon. Bamisile, Chairman FERMA Committee; and the Managing Director of FERMA.
He also thanked Hon. Sam Onuigbo and Hon. Uko Nkole, the respective representatives of the equally affected Ikwuano-Umuahia and Arochukwu-Ohafia federal constituencies for their synergy and cooperation in securing the federal government intervention on the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia road, reminding us that outside the ongoing maintenance job, the major reconstruction of the road which has been approved by the FEC under the Ministry of Works will be starting soon.
He challenged the respective contractors for the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia road and the Bende-Etitiulo road, Messrs. P2E Technologies Ltd and Messrs. Thomcom Global Ltd to the highest standards in service delivery, remarking that the people of Bende would always commend a good job and would never settle for less.
