- Press Release
We are totally disappointed by the poor and sub-standard road construction by ARAB CONTRACTORS construction firm that is handling the reconstruction of UMUAHIA – ABA – PORT HARCOURT EXPRESS ROAD. The materials used and the poor asphalting leaves much to be desired. We call for probe and most importantly for the right thing to be done on that road.
It is very unfortunate to note that a road that is still under reconstruction by ARAB CONTRACTORS have so many pot holes and failed portions that can cause serious damage to peoples cars and accident. In some portion of the road , the pot holes was seen 7 days after asphalting. ARAB CONTRACTORS have started pashing the road . A road that has not lasted for 3 complete months.
There is no where in the world were this sought of broad daylight robbery and corruption is condoned and tolerated. What ARAB CONTRACTORS is doing on that road in the name of reconstruction is totally unacceptable and we condemn it in it’s entirety.
We call on the federal minister of works and housing Barr. Babatunde Fashola to ensure that the road reconstruction is properly executed according to specifications and international standard of road construction. We demand proper supervision and monitoring to ensure the right thing is done on that road.
ARAB CONTRACTORS cannot come to decieve us here . What they are doing is a well calculated attempt to rob the people of South East of good quality road and democracy dividends of this administration. But their plot is dead on arrival.
Presently the country is facing economic challenges , we don’t have resources to waste hence we demand that there execute the road construction according to international standard.
The activities of ARAB CONTRACTORS on this road clearly shows that they don’t mean well for Nigeria and Nigerians. They want to milk the country’s resources dry by constructing sub-standard roads that will fail 2 years after construction and they will be called again to bid for the same contract they just finished 2 years back.
Roads constructed in developed countries last for a minimum of 50 years with guarantee. If it doesn’t last according to the guaranteed years, the owners of the construction firm that handled the road construction will be charged and sentenced to prison. It’s high time we start doing that in Nigeria to serve as deterrent to any contractor that is found waiting.
A construction firm that mean well for this country will not involve itself in double-dealing . They want to plunder the lean resources of this country , but we will not allow them.
Osisioma junction of that express road is nothing to write home about. Though it has not been reconstructed but that particular portion is so bad that motorist spend 3 to 4 hours on traffic just to pass through that junction. In most cases , trucks and vehicles fall in that place.
We demand that ARAB CONTRACTORS do the needful in that place by making it passable for motorists plying that road.
If after 30 days of this release and nothing is done , we will storm their office to press home our demands.
We therefore call on ICPC, Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and other relevant authorities to immediately probe this broad daylight brazen corruption on Nigerian soil.
Signed:
Chief Goodluck Egwu Ibem
President General
Comrade Kanice Igwe
