Coalition Of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has reacted over the rape and killing of Mrs Regina Mba by suspected Fulani Herdsmen.
The 67 years old woman was raped and killed by herdsmen on Wednesday 21st August 2019, at Nchatacha – Nike in Enugu East local government area of the state.
According to reports, Late Mrs. Mba was killed while in her farm cultivating crops, when suspected herdsmen descended on her, raped and killed her. Her death sparked protest in the area, as women took to the streets blocked the city roads while demanding for justice.
However, in a swift reaction, COSEYL, in a press release, call on The Air Force, Army, Police and other security agencies to swing into action and bring the perpetrators to book.
“We call for immediate arrest and prosecution of the culprits who have desecrated Our land. The case of rape is sacrilegious in Igbo land and we will not tolerate such act of abomination .
“The Air Force, Army, Police and other security agencies should immediately embark on air surveillance to apprehend the culprits of this wicked dastardly act . This kind of atrocity is strange to Igbo land.
“Miyetti-Allah cattle breeders Association , MACBAN should stop denying that, it is not Fulani herdsmen that perpetuated the wicked act and immediately produce the rapists and killers of Mrs Mba and hand them over to the police for prosecution. The know the herdsmen better than the police. They should immediately do the needful in order to maintain peace and order.
“If MACBAN is sincere in their earlier stand of obeying the laws of the place they are doing business and their promise to the governor of Enugu state to be law abiding, this is the time to prove it.
“South East governors have before now warned against movement of cattle through the forest and bushes in the zone and this criminal herdsmen are till illegally occupying our forest and farm lands . Cattles coming into south East must be conveyed through road with trucks carrying them.
“Going into somebody’s land is an act of trespass and it’s against the law of the federal republic of Nigeria. Nobody has the right to go into another person’s land without the permission of the owner . Trespassing is an offense punishable under the law. These culprits have committed rape , trespass and murder . They must be charged and prosecuted accordingly.
“We call on youths , Town unions in South East to immediately set-up security using the hunters and young men to guard their forest and bushes to avoid illegal occupiers . The time to act is now not later.
“We call on MACBAN and the sponsors of the rapists, murderous and bandits herdsmen to immediately call back their wicked herdsmen back to the North where the is enough land for grazing.
“We therefore warn all fulani herdsmen to leave South East forests and bushes within 7days or face the wrath of COSEYL. Open grazing is against our culture and tradition in Igbo land. Our laws , values and tradition must respected. Enough is Enough.
