Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has announced date his administration will launch a new security outfit in the state to help curb insecurity.
The governor stated this while reacting to the recent attack on the Okigwe community by gunmen who invaded the Okigwe town, in Okigwe L.G.A Imo state on Wednesday night (4th March, 2020), the attack, according to reports left 8 persons dead and not less than 12 others wounded.
Also corroborating the reports, Hon. Chidiebere Ogbunikpa, member representing Okigwe State constituency in the Imo House of Assembly, during plenary on Thursday (5th Match, 2020) decried the inability of the security agencies to protect the people of Okigwe LGA.
Reacting to the attack, Governor Uzodinma vowed to use the new security outfit to flush out those involved in the attack. According to him, the new security outfit will be combing the nooks and crannies of Imo in order to forestall similar security breakdown in Imo.
Taken to his twitter handle, Governor Uzodinma wrote… “Announcing the birth of a new security outfit which shall be charged with the special responsibility of combing the nooks & crannies of Imo inorder to forestall similar security breakdown as witnessed in Okigwe.
According to the twitter post, Saturday, 14th March 2020, is the date to launch the security outfit.
While speaking in the video uploaded by his twitter handler, Uzodinma said…
“On 14th of March, we are going to launch our security outfit.
“Am very confident that when the outfit is launch and properly implemented, people can go about their businesses without fear of any “idiot”.
Speaking further, he said; “We are not going to allow the speculation or spread of fake news to deter our determination to secure Imo State”.
He charged the traditional rulers, and community leaders to help the security agents to curb the menace of insecurity”.
