Abia State Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu was in Aba yesterday to see the current state of the brand new Multi Specialist Hospital Aba.
This new hospital which is located inside the premises of the old Aba General Hospital is first of its kind anywhere in Abia State with specific focus on kidney and heart diseases.
Speaking on the new project, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Barr Onyebuchi Ememanka, said the new hospital is Governor Ikpeazu’s response to the quest to preserve the wonderful memories of the old Aba General Hospital and it’s place in the history of Aba and the hearts of its people.
According to him, “the old Aba General Hospital housed the Abia State University Teaching Hospital several years ago. But when the Teaching Hospital was moved to her Permanent Site, what was left of the Aba General Hospital became abandoned for 8 straight years until the Ikpeazu administration reopened the hospital in 2018”
“However, it became clear that what was left of the General Hospital Aba, especially in terms of physical structures and environment were no longer appropriate to meet the challenges of a modern Healthcare Delivery System”
“As we speak, work on the main complex is almost ready as final painting is currently on, while all equipment for this new hospital are fully on ground and their installation will commence later this week and should be completed within 10 days.
“These include several dialysis machines, a 265 Slide CT SCAN Machine and several other high end radiology equipment. This new facility will have 4 modern operating theatres and about 20 VIP patients suites in addition to general areas”
“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu intends to commission this hospital before his exit on the 29th day of May, 2023” he said
