The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu had inaugurated a 26 member Advisory Council for the PDP 2023 Campaign with renown industrialist and former Presidential Aspirant, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa as Chairman.
Speaking while inaugurating the Council at the Banqeut Hall of Government House Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu charged them to evolve a strategy that would bring about total victory for the party in the coming elections.
According to him, the Council must not leave any stone unturned in the march towards victory adding that they must embark on door to door campaigns especially at the grassroots.
The Governor stated that there is no other party in Abia state with capacity and potentials like the PDP, and expressed confidence in the ability of members of the Advisory Councill to lead the party to victory.
He urged them to ensure genuine reconciliation for all aggrieved members and expressed confidence that with their support, the PDP will deliver all it’s candidates in the 2023 elections.
The State Chairman of the PDP, Rt Hon Asiforo Okere used the opportunity to appeal to all members of the party to sheath their swords and put the events of the last primaries behind and remember that only one person will win at at a particular time.
He told the members of the Advisory Council that their selection was based on their track record and long years of experience in delivering successful elections. The Chairman clarified that the Council is different from the Elders’ Council of the party, noting that while the Elders’ Council is a permanent anf constitutional body of the party, the Advisory Council is set up specifically to guide the party for the elections.
In his speech, the PDP Governorship Candidate, Prof Uche Ikonne, thanked the Governor and the party leadership for creating the right atmosphere for the party to record victory in the forth coming general elections and pledged not to disappoint Abians if elected Governor.
In their separate speeches, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP , Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya and Lady Victoria Akanwa thanked the leadership of the party for finding them worthy to serve in the Council and assured that they will bring their wealth of experience to bear to ensure victory for the party.
Responding on behalf, of the newly inaugurated Council, the Chairman, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa appreciated the Governor for the opportunity given them to serve and assured that they will work towards genuine reconciliation of all aggrieved members and a resounding victory for the party in the elections.
The Council has Chief Uzodinma Okpara as the Deputy Chairman while Professor Paul Ananaba, SAN will serve as the Secretary.
Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahiwe, Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP, Hon Barrister Okey Igwe, Senatorial Candidates, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Col Austin Akobundu (Rtd), State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Hon Obinna Nwachukwu and other members of the State Working Committee of the Party were part of the event.
