Enugu State today becomes a ghost town following the directives of the new State Governor, Peter Mbah to end the Monday Sit-at-home in the State.
AbaCityBlog reports that Governor Mbah had few days ago declared an end to sit-at-home in the state effective from Monday, June 5, 2023, saying such orders were restricting creativity, entrepreneurship, and productivity in the state.
Mbah made the declaration while listing out the decisions reached at the end of his first security council meeting with the heads of all the security agencies at the Government House, Enugu, on Thursday.
The Governor quoted to have said, “…with reality that the spirit of entrepreneurship, commerce and creativity are killed every Monday in our land. Our restless spirit of industry abhors laxity and indolence.”
“The idea behind sitting at home on Monday, the first working and business day of the week, is abominable and antithetical to greatness and the spirit of industry we profess to have inherited from our forebears. This cannot be us. Tufiakwa (God forbid). It does colossal damage to us”, he further added.
Reacting to the governor’s directive, a self-acclaimed freedom fighter, Simon Ekpa in a viral video dared the governor to come out on Monday and stand on the market if he truly wants to end the Monday Sit-at-home.
Although, there has been a partial compliance with the Monday Sit-at-home across the South-eastern States, however, with the new directives of Governor Mbah, Enugu residents seem to be more scared of their lives than before.
Photos obtained by AbaCityBlog showed empty streets and empty markets unlike what it used to be before the Governor’s directive.
