20th of October 2020, was an unforgettable day to many Nigerians, especially those who participated in the End SARS protests at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State when men in military uniform opened fire on the protesters.
Although, the Nigerian army has denied involvement, citing their men was never deployed to shoot at the protesters, but viral videos showed the moment the military men opened fire on the peaceful protesters who are protesting against the now-disbanded police unit known as Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS..
While condemnation has trailed the incident, One of the survivors, Nicholas Anthony Ope, has narrated how he was shot in the chest, blood was gushing out and he thought he was dead.
“I was shot in my chest, I fell down, blood was gushing out like water. I thought I was dead”, my fellow Nigerians took me to different hospital who rejected me, fortunately, this hospital took me in and saved my life”.
“They said bullet is still in my chest. Doctor said I have to undergo X-ray to trace the direction of the bullet to enable smooth and successful operation”, Ope said while lying down in his sickbed.
Ope made the above statement when some concerned Nigerians visited him at a hospital where he was taking treatment. According to reports, the hospital did not charge for the service.
