Ms Flourish Victor, daughter of Mrs Amarachi Okechi, a widow who was accused of witchcraft by her community in Abia State is calling for justice for her humiliated mother.
AbaCityBlog reports that Mrs Okechi was accused of witchcraft by her late husband’s brother’s wife in Umueghu Amaegbuato Community, Nkpa in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
A video which trended online showed how the angry mob ties Mrs Okechi’s hands to her back and took a turn in flogging her.

The mob accused Mrs. Okechi of being responsible for the illness of a young girl who took ill and the illness “defied” treatment. They claimed the widow magically caused the ailment.
“The Youths in the community accused Mrs. Okechi of witchcraft after consulting a local diviner who certified her was behind the sickness. Mr. Okechukwu Chidirim led the youths who consulted the diviner,” a local told AfAW.
While the video was trending, Harrison Gwamnishu, a Human Rights activist and Witchcraft advocacy group, Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW), called on the attention of the Abia State government, which in turn, the wife of the Abia State governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu ordered the woman to be released and brought to Umuahia, State capital for treatment.
Reacting to the humiliation meted on her mother, Ms Flourish Victor said she was heartbroken when she was notified about the mob action on her mother.
