Senator, Elisha Abbo has been declared as the authentic winner of the Adamawa North Senatorial seat in the 9th Senate.
This was the verdict of the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal.
Senator Abbo’s victory was challenged by Binta Garba of the All Progressives Congress who occupied the seat between 2015 and 2019.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Abbo, who ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the February 23, 2019.
The lawmaker had alleged that irregularities witnessed during the election which included over-voting, failure to use card readers as well as intimidation of voters and party agents nullified the results of the election.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday however, the court declared that Abbo who is still currently enmeshed in an assault scandal with a shop owner in Abuja was the true winner of the election.
The lawmaker subsequently took to his Facebook page to express delight over the tribunal’s decision to affirm him the winner of the election.
“The voice of the people is the voice of Power. We have won our case at the tribunal. We would be forever victorious. Let’s give God the glory all the time. Thank you my people,” he posted.
