The Nigerian Army has fulfilled their promise of trying according to extant rules and regulations of the Nigerian Army and if found wanting appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against the Lance Corporal Ajayi Johnson, soldier who allegedly killed an Okada rider Mr. Chimaobi Nwogu at Umuokereke Obingwa.
It would be recalled that the suspect had on August 7, 2019 allegedly shot Nwaogu for reportedly failing to drop N100 at a military checkpoint, killing him.
The Deputy Director Public Relations, Nigerian Army 82 Division, Enugu said the Headquarters 82 Division has charged, tried, the soldier and reduced in rank to private and dismissed him from service adding that they have today officially handed him over to the Nigerian police whose duty it is to investigate the matter.
Brigadier General SB Kumapayi, Commander 14 Brigade Ohaifia, Abia state said the handover of the Ex- military man, Ajayi Johnson to the Nigerian police is apt for further investigation.
Earlier, the Abia state Commissioner for police, Ene Okon said it is the duty of the police to investigate matters like that and commended the Nigerian police for handing over the suspect to the police.
Highlight of the day was the official handover of Ajayi Johnson the culprit who killed an Okada rider, Chimaobi Nwogu at Umuokereke Ngwa to the Nigerian police Umuahia by the Nigerian Army 82 Division Enugu.
Ajay Johnson was rearrested by the Nigerian Police under the directive of the Abia state Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon.
