The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has been applauded by his constituents for his intervention efforts in the area of medical outreach.
Senator Kalu’s constituents from Ohafia local government area, urged other politicians in the state to emulate the people-oriented programmes of Senator Kalu, especially in the area of free medical outreach which, they said, would improve the wellbeing of people across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
They gave the commendation yesterday, shortly after the online registration of beneficiaries for the one year free medical health insurance scheme at Ohafia local government area—a project attracted by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to enhance the health standard of his constituents.
At the event held at Ebem Ohafia Primary School, Ohafia LGA, the people stressed the need for the political class to embark on programmes that would positively impact on the masses.
Madam Grace Ndukwe, an indigine of Ukwa Nkporo, pointed out that she was proud of Senator Kalu for his commitment and determination to enhance the health status of his constituents, noting that the Abia North senator was “worthy of emulation”.
“I am highly impressed with what Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is doing. If other politicians will do what he is doing, our story would be better as a state. He is constructing roads, renovating schools —and today, it’s free medical outreach for a period of one year,” she said.
She expressed the optimism that the senator’s performance so far would further enhance his popularity and acceptability in the Senatorial District, saying that “the love we have for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is increasing everyday because of his impactful programmes.”
Mr Kalu Ukonu, a community leader from Asaga Ohafia thanked Senator Kalu for coming to their rescue, praying God to grant the Senator the desires of his heart.
“This is the first time our people would have the opportunity of receiving a free medical treatment for a period of one year. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has made it possible. May God bless him abundantly and grant the desires of his heart,” he said.
Addressing newsmen at the event, Senator Kalu, through his legislative assistant, Barr. Mbila Ayi promised to expand his programmes to other areas in addition to the free medical outreach, adding that his constituents would witness more democracy dividends.
He also said that the health outreach would enhance the health standard of the people of Abia North Senatorial District.
“These 153 people from Ohafia would be attended to at Amaekpu and Ebem Ohafia Health Centres respectively. So, today’s online registration is to enable them have an identity card for treatment for a period of one year. This outreach is expected to enhance the health standard of our people” he said.
