In furtherance of the emergency declared in environmental sanitation in Abia State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has urged all residents of Aba to clear all drainage channels in front of their residences and business premises.
The governor also ordered the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency refuse compactors, including the new ones, be deployed across all parts of Aba for the purpose of carting away the debris scooped from the drainage.
Recall that the governor had on Saturday sacked the general manager of ASEPA, Mr Kelechi Apougo, for the poor sanitation of the state.
The governor also asked the secretary to the state government, Mr Chris Ezem, to take over the running of the agency.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Onyebuchi Ememanka, stated that all debris scooped from the drainage should be packed beside the road ready to be evacuated.
The statement added that the governor would personally lead and supervise the exercise, commencing from Wednesday.
The statement added, “Aba residents are expected to fully comply with this request which is aimed at ensuring that our environments are kept clean and our drainage free of any dirt for the free flow of storm water.”
