Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria has reacted to the arrest of veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu.
Abacityblog earlier reported that the actor was arrested by the military at the Upper Iweka Onitsha, Anambra State for wearing an outfit inscribed with Biafra flag.
It was gathered that Chiwetalu Agu was in Onitsha on a charity mission where he regularly gifts the less privileged with food items when he was arrested by soldiers.
“He was sharing food with some less privileged persons at Upper Iweka when the soldiers approached him and arrested him. He was manhandled and arrested and taken to their barracks,” a source said told Punch.
He was said to have allegedly taken to 82 Division Enugu after he was dragged on the floor by the military.
Agu, who is a supporter of the Biafra cause, had, in several videos, criticised the administration of the President Muhammadu Buhari, for marginalising Igbo.
Reacting over Chiwetalu Agu’s arrest, Emeka Rollas condemned the Actor’s action, noting that he shouldn’t have wore Biafra regalia, considering high rate of insecurity in the state.
He, however, said the Guild is doing everything possible to ensure Chiwetalu Agu is released.
“I don’t know why he put on Biafra regalia. The state is hot. We are in talk with the military officials to ensure he his released.
“I heard they have taken him to 82 Division of the Nigeria Military base. We will do our best”, Rollas told Vanguard.
