Buzz FM Head Of News Stanley Mba Joins Fight Against Discrimination With A Poem

March 23, 2019
in #OffBeat
  • By Stanley Mba

In commemoration of the World poetry day which held on Thursday March 21st, 2019 all over the world, I wrote a poem, a combination of English and my native Igbo language (Ohafia) in Abia State, South East Nigeria.

This is in line with this year’s theme which encouraged poets to write in their mother tongues.

I titled this poem “Dark is My Skin”

The poem preaches against discrimination.
It expresses the fact that we are created by the same God no matter the colour of our skin or the tongue we speak.
He blesses us despite who we are or where we are from.

Good and evil doesn’t choose colour, but bequeath who opens his or her door.

My poem is in rhymes, an expression of who we are and who God is to us.

This is my work, I was inspired by UN’s determination to fight discrimination and it’s ugly effects on the peaceful coexistence of mankind.

I hope you find a substance in it and make it reach the unreached at all cost.

DARK IS MY SKIN
By Stanley MBA

Dark is my skin
White is my heart
Africa is my home
Abia is my hood
Ohafia is my blood.

God is Chim
Odu nde ubi eje ikpokporo
Ya bulia oche dowo ya ome kpokoro
Owu ngu metu oba, oba mea kpokoro

Oya wu Oji oku eri aja
Ya mere gi ife ga agba ama

Omagi onye ocha eye onye ojiri
Owu nna ni onye ocha yara onye ojiri

Chim is God
God to the Dark Skin
God to the white Skin

Dark is my skin
White is my heart
