Chibuzor John Onyekwere, aka (Prince John) a very popular Nigerian trader, who sells ladies shoes & bags in Koforidua, in eastern Region of Ghana, was arrested in 2018 because a fellow Nigerian business associate whom he recently met, had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend which led to a fight. In the process, the Nigerian murdered his girlfriend and ran away.
Chibuzor John Onyekwere who had no knowledge of the fight, or the murder committed by his business associate, was arrested by the Ghanian police, three months after the murder was committed.
The Ghanian police arrested him in his house at Koforidua, that he should provide the Nigerian associate of he’s whom the police claimed to be his friend, who has absconded after murdering his girlfriend.
He told them the guy is just a business associate, that he knows nothing about him personally outside business. Moreover they started doing business together recently. The Ghanian police took him away since 2018, till date. They locked him up at Koforidua prison without allowing his family members or anyone to see him. They lied that he is not there.
They denied the Igbo community in Koforidua access to see him.
He was left there for several months, without anyone being allowed to see him. After several tries, someone in Ghana was contacted to help. With the person’s influence, they finally allowed someone to see him.
He broke down in tears, the day he was called out that, someone is there to see him. He narrated his own side of the story, & the person assured him that a lawyer will come for him. But few days after he was visited in Koforidua prison, they transfered him to Nsawam prison.
The prison authorities has refused to provide his prison tag number, so he can be located in Nsawam prison. All efforts to get them provide his information has proven abortive. This 37 year old Nigerian man has been left in prison to languish, because he has no prison records.
Chibuzor John Onyekwere married a Ghanian woman, and they both had two kids together. He built two houses in Koforidua eastern region of Ghana. But as soon as this problem started, his Ghanian wife abandoned him, and immediately claimed possession of his two houses.
She left him to languish in prison, & remarried a Ghanian man.
The Nigerian embassy in Ghana has been notified about this case, but did nothing. The Igbo community in Koforidua has tried for him, but to no avail. His father had died because he is the bread winner of the family.
His aged mother in Nigeria cries every day for her son’s way about. If he is still alive, the family wants to know. If he is in Nsawam prison, the family wants to see him. They want to know his crime, and the reason he is languishing in prison since 2018.
His Ghanian wife in connivance with some Ghanaians has taken all his properties and his two sons.
I call on the Nigerian government, the Ministry of foreign affairs @NigeriaMFA, NIDCOM @nidcom_gov to look into Chibuzor John Onyekwere’s case.
They should ask the Ghanian authorities to provide him. He can’t just disappear like that from 2018 till date. His children are Nigerian citizens, and Nigeria must take possession of them. I call on Igbos worldwide, to come to the aid of Chibuzor John Onyekwere. Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
