Coalition Of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of targeting South-east leaders and Christians through his anti-corruption crusade.
COSEYL, while using the case of the former Abia State governor, Chief Theodore Orji, Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah and Enyinnaya Abaribe as a case study, wondered why the present administration is targeting only the Christians and South-eastern leaders.
This was contained in a statement signed by the group President General, Chief Goodluck Egwu Ibem. The full statement reads below…
Recent events has clearly revealed that the anti-corruption war by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, is purely targeted against the Christians in the north and political leaders of South-East geo-political zone because of his demand for the office of the president come 2023.
Senator Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah was falsely accused of presenting a forged NECO certificate to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and when the National Examination Council , NECO, came forward to testify that the certificate presented by senator Ubah is genuine, the evil plotters came up with another game of accusing the revered senator of defrauding the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) of 135 billion naira.
Senator Ubah is facing all these hurdles because some people who are hell-bent of denying the South East of the opportunity of producing a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction are afraid that he might contest for president or support an Igbo candidate come 2023.
All these are trumped-up charges by the evil plotters to tarnish his hard-earned reputation.
Senator Theodore Ahamefula Orji, Distinquish senator representing Abia central senatorial zone and his son Engr. Chinedum Orji were recently interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. After interrogating them, their international passports was seized. Their matter which is still under primary investigation have been publicized in the media as if they are guilty as charged. They have been under Media trial which is against the law just to tarnish their hard-earned reputation and brand the political leaders of south east as corrupt and not fit to present a credible candidate for the office of the president come 2023.
The way and manner the case of senator T. A. Orji and his family was recently awashed in the media clearly shows that ‘ there is more than meet the eye’ .
This evil plotters are even using some Igbo politicians who are ignorant of what they are doing to destroy the chances of an Igbo man to emerge as president come 2023.
Barr. Allen Onyema, the CEO of Air Peace Airline was also accused of fraud in the United States of America simply because some powerful brokers are also scared of him using the love Nigerians have for him as leverage to contest for president or that he might support and sponsor an Igboman to run for president come 2023.
These and many more evidence are simple pointer to the fact that the south-east is under political seige because they are demanding for the office of the president come 2023.
One senator from Abia State have been jailed by a Lagos high Court the same state they are using to trial senator Ifeanyi Ubah of defrauding AMCON N135bn . They want to do the same to the senator representing Abia central senatorial zone. They have perfected plans to also pick up the senator representing Abia South senatorial zone , Senator Enyinnaya Abiribe based on some trumped-up charges.
Senator Joshua Dariye former governor of Plateau state and ex-former of Taraba state Rev. Jolly Nyame were jailed because they are Christians from the north.
In the $2bn arms deal funds that was collected and disburse by Col.Sambo Dazuki, rtd, to PDP stalwarts during the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration. Chief Olisa Metuh who was innocently given N400 million to deliver his party for the 2015 elections have been jailed by an Abuja high court on Tuesday 25th February, 2020 while former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Dazuki, Bashir Yuguda, the former minister of state finance, Malam Abdullahi Bala Lau and other northern Muslim politicians that benefited from the fraud are left off the hook and are moving about freely without any arrest or prosecution. Olisa Metuh was used to set an example because he is an Igboman.
Though we commend the effort of the government to recover the said amount through the EFCC, the clearly obvious selective manner in identifying, arresting and prosecuting all those that were genuinely involved has created serious doubts about the sincerity of the government in ensuring that all those that benefited from the $2 billion largesse irrespective of their closeness or otherwise to the government are brought to book.
If the federal government and the EFCC is sincere about its corruption fight, why did they drop the corruption charges against the former governor of Gombe state , a Muslim and present senator representing Gombe central Senatorial district, Senator Danjuma Goje for stepping down for Senator Lawan to emerge as Senate president.
The persecution of Christians and South-East political leaders is totally unacceptable to us. Peace and stability of any nation is only achieved when the rights and privileges of the component units are respected.
You get disintegration, instability and anarchy when you apply selective Justice.
Enough of this persecution of the Igbo political leaders and Christians.
