Anambra Police command has arrested the suspended transition committee chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area Mbazulike Iloka over the death of his wife.
Anambra Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the development to TheNation on Wednesday.
He said the Command, through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), was conducting further investigations to know what actually transpired.
Tochukwu said Mbazulike was apprenhded based on the allegations he had something to do with the death of his wife, Chidiebere last week.
He was suspended immediately the incident happened by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The former Chairman, popularly referred to as Mba Mba, was accused of killing his wife in a case of domestic violence, a charge which he denied, claiming she slumped and died.
Two human rights groups Campiagn for Democracy (CD) and Human Rights Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE) petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba to arrest the former Chairman to serve as a deterrent to others.
Chidiebere was said to have slumped and died on August 7, 2022 after serving her husband breakfast.
But sources said her death was not natural following bruises said to have been found all over her body.
