…to give scholarships to best students
Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) vanguard group yesterday, empowered about 800 students of Igbere Community secondary school with requisite educational materials and tools for effective second term of the school session.
The group also promised to reward outstanding students of each class with scholarship and cash to aid their studies, as part of the activities to mark its 10th anniversary in Abia
Speaking during the visit to the secondary school, Executive Coordinator of the group, Hon. Paul Onwuka Uche said the empowerment which cut across secondary schools in Aba and Abia North, was borne out of a deep conviction to improve students academic performance in schools
According to him, “the empowerment programme was initiated as part of programmes to mark the 10th anniversary of the organisation, and it is aimed at inspiring and empowering young students and to create an avenue for members of the organization to give back and mentor the younger generation.”
He explained that , “OUK Vanguard intends to remain at the forefront of providing the much needed guidance for young students, ensuring they build the leadership, personal skills and inner confidence to dream big and contribute to the society at large.”
It is gathered that the program will empower over 2500 young students across Aba and Abia North of the state with critical life skills with a view to boosting their confidence and building their academic and leadership capacity; thereby preparing them for higher education and life after secondary school.
‘OUK Vanguard are accomplished men from diverse backgrounds in the Orji Uzor Kalu movement who have volunteered since 2009 to be ‘mentors for students ’ and assigned to the various schools across South East to deliver a customized educational materials to enable efficient learning. “
Speaking at the ceremony, Principal of Igbere Secondary School, Mr. Ekeoma Sunday Uche, said his school welcomes such initiatives and empowerments. He expressed his excitements and stressed the importance of students empowerment to uplift families and support the students for optimum performance.
He thanked the group for including his school in the benevolence extended to secondary schools.
