The Youths in Aba, commercial city of Abia State is currently protesting an end for Ebubeagu Security Outfit in the South-East region.
The protest is coming weeks after the Ebubeagu Security were accused of extra-judiciously killing about 14 youths in Otulu community in Awo-Omamma, Imo State.
The Imo State governor, Hop Uzodinma, who confirmed the killings, said, operatives of the Nigeria secret police, Department of State Services (DSS) carried out the killings, and not Ebubeagu Security as reported.
However, the locals insisted that Ebubeagu are behind the killings, by wrongfully labelling the deceased youths as bandits and killing them as they were returning home after attending a traditional marriage ceremony in the area on Sunday evening.
The killing of the youths has elicited several protests in Owerri, the Imo State capital, as protesters demand an end to Ebubeagu Security Outfit.
Protesting in solidarity with the Imo State youths, Aba residents today hit the streets to demand for the disbandment of Ebubeagu.
Although, the local security outfit was set up by the five governors of South-East, however, Ebubeagu’s activities have only been recorded in Imo and Anambra States, following the rise in insecurity in those States.
A video obtained by AbaCityBlog shows the protesters chanting Ebubeagu must Go, displaying placards bearing, “End Ebubeagu Now”, etc
