One of the largest gatherings of Igbos living in America and beyond took place some days ago in the state of Minnesota during this years igbo cultural festival tagged IGBOFEST 2022.
It was a very colorful carnival featuring dance troupes, masquerades, cultural exhibitions, traditional cuisine, cultural sports, Igbo language debates, Art, music, pageants and showcasing the best of Igbo customary rites for a new generation of Igbo youth born and bred in America who took great pride in staging the cultural performances.
The city was literally brought to a standstill with this extravaganza and carnival atmosphere featuring live Igbo music and dancers.
The Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz has declared August 13 as Igbo Day in the state of Minnesota.
The special guest at this year’s event was Wife of the late Igbo leader Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and former Nigeria Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Mrs Bianca Ojukwu who dazzled the mammoth crowd at the occasion with her dexterous dance steps and enjoined them to always ‘think home’ and never to forget their roots.
