Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Spokesperson of the House and Member representing Bende Federal Constituency, has frowned at the quality of work done by Thomcom-Global Links Nigeria Limited, the company contracted by FERMA to undertake the rehabilitation of the Bende-Itumbauzor-Etitiulor Road.
According to reports by DrumAfrica, the 2-kilometre road attracted by Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who is hailed as the first Bende House of Reps member to attract a road project, was the subject of a petition alleging that the quality of road work done by the company was substandard. This motivated the Honourable member to conduct an audit on the road.
When asked about his assessments, the Honourable member frowned at the level of job done so far and confirmed that he has informed the contractor and FERMA that there is a petition already before the House Committee on Public Petitions about the road.
He insisted that the only remedy to the petition is a reconfirmation by the contractor and FERMA that the quality will be improved on before the asphalting which was meant to take place from Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Hon. Kalu also asked the contractor to stop the asphalting programmed for Wednesday until the corrections were made.
Meanwhile, the need to access the road quality was echoed by the executive of the Bende Town Union (BTU).
BTU Secretary, Egeonu Nwachukwu, who visited the site on behalf of BTU President-General, Sir Anthony Njoku, complained bitterly about the poor job.
Following Hon. Kalu’s interventions, Engr. Awa, the acting FRME of FERMA who visited the site this morning agreed with the assessment of the honourable member and ordered the contractor to redo the job with immediate effect.
FERMA is also set to commence rehabilitation work on the Umuahia-Bende road shortly.
