To mark Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations, the Benjamin Kalu Foundation (BKF) is set to award bursaries to over 400 Bende undergraduates on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Member representing Bende Federal Constituency and Official Spokesman of the House of Representatives, in a response to our reporters, stated that the reason for this initiative was to fill a gap in the education sector and was borne out of his passion for the educational emancipation of Bende people. He further stated that the beneficiaries were chosen by his Foundation across all communities in Bende regardless of political affiliations.
According to aides of the Representative, this set of beneficiaries will be the first batch of undergraduates to benefit from the 2019 edition of the Benjamin Kalu Foundation Education Support Project (BKF-ESP2019).
Drum Africa has gathered that BKF-ESP2019 will be followed by several projects this year, including an educational support project for secondary school students, an Enterprise Support Programme targeted at artisans in Bende as well as the Benjamin Kalu Foundation End Blindness Project (BKF-EBP2019) an outreach targeting 3000 Bende indigenes for eye examinations, treatment, surgery and glasses prescription.
The event will be witnessed by traditional rulers and political leaders from all the communities of the beneficiaries and is slated to kick off at 8am on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Agbamuzu Town Hall in Bende Town, Bende LGA.
