The Super Falcons of Nigeria are one leg into Morocco 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations following their 2-0 home win over the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the qualifier tie played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Following its partnership with the NFF, MTN Nigeria has made it a mission to be at all games Nigeria plays and this was no exception with the company being on ground to cheer the Falcons to victory.
Nigeria started the game flat footed with the Ivorians asking questions in the first 15 minutes. The Falcons defense withheld the pressure and were duly rewarded in the 21st minute when Onumonu Ifeoma Chukwufumnaya’s strike found the back of the net after connecting to a pass from Esther Okoronkwo to put the host in front.
Onumonu Ifeoma Chukwufumnaya bagged her brace with a 56th minute loop shot over Cynthia Djohore of Cote d’Ivoire to double Nigeria’s lead.
Randy Walldrum, head coach of the Super Falcons believes hard work and adhering to the formation gave his side the needed win, “Asisat, Ordega and Oparanozie were not available for us today but it gives me great strength in knowing that we’ve got the squad depth.”
According to Adia Sowho, Chief Marketing Officer MTN Nigeria, the telco remains passionate about aiding the development of female football in the country, “We want to show that our female footballers superstars. We need them to be as respected as the super house of football. We should be talking about them and celebrating them as much. That’s one of the reasons we chose to partner with NFF as a whole and not just the Super Eagles team.”
It would be recalled that MTN Nigeria, official telecommunications of all national football teams in the country, had in September 2021 entered into a-3 year partnership deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to cater for the Super Eagles and other national football teams.
Nigeria will be away in Abidjan for the return fixture next week Tuesday 23rd February
