The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji yesterday attended The Maiden Uniform Display and Award Giving Ceremony of Umuajiji Women Association, in Umuahia.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker congratulated the Umuajiji Women Association on the occasion which he described as the first of its kind in the history of Umuajiji Women as a group.
He expressed delight being at the event which he said was proof that the Ibeku clan is making huge positive progress with development which he said is the only way forward. He admonished the people to shun divisive tendencies, come together as one irrespective of political affiliations and achieve greater things together.
Finally, the Speaker said the mini stadium he sited in Umuajiji Isieke was because of his firm belief and love for Ibeku clan and promised that the project which is 99% complete will attract economic growth for the community and create opportunities for the youths as a result of activities that will be taking place there. He promised to donate handsomely to the group in support of their Maiden Uniform of Umuajiji Women Association.
An Award of Appreciation was presented to the Speaker by Mrs Victoria Osonwa (Da Oyiri Nnaya), the oldest woman in Umuajiji Isieke who also offered special prayers for the Speaker.
Presenting her address earlier, Mrs Chinwe Odoemelam, Secretary of Umuajiji Women Association said they collectively decided to honour the Speaker because of his towering and outstanding achievements in Umuajiji Isieke especially for constructing a Mini Stadium on their soil and installing an electricity transformer for them.
Mrs Odoemelam said the people of Umuajiji Isieke will never forget the good gestures from the Speaker and that they will not take his kindness for granted.
She prayed God to continue to bless the Speaker abundantly and increase his greatness on all sides.
The Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Dr Chidi Onwuchuruba, the Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, Chief Uchenna Akwukwegbu (Bawas), and other dignitaries attended the occasion.
