Ibe Okwara Osonwa has called on government at all levels to make its youths drivers of the economy through investments in the young people.
He said that making youths the drivers of the economy will help eliminate crimes and other security challenges facing the nation.
He made the remarks in an interview with journalists at the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja
Osonwa who is a House of Representatives aspirant for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State under the All Progressives Congress, APC, said politicians must stop giving out handouts and peanuts to the youths but must engage them properly to contribute their quota to the development of the nation.
“Today, if you critically examine the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, most of the motorbikes used for crime today by youths were given to them by politicians in the name of empowerment.
“We must move away from such actions if we want to move forward as a nation. Our youths deserve better from the government and political leaders.
“Youth investment through education, vocational training, access to healthcare, housing, and certain concession in political participation will help to engage the youths meaningfully and save Nigeria from some of the security challenges we are facing”, he said.
