A group, Coalition of Arewa Youth Forum has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency, sack the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi over his negative comments on the ongoing Nigeria River Ports, which they view as sabotage on the nation’s economy.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday, the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Alhaji Nuhu Sani Lere lamented that it’s uncalled for the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amechi to appear on NTA programme and say the Federal Government’s efforts to provide four river ports in the country as waste of funds.
He described such a move as a sabotage on NIgeria’s economy, seeing that the present administration is committed to diversifying from mono to an economy supported by solid minerals, agricultural and other non oil exports.
Alhaji Nuhu Sani Lere further said that it’s disheartening for the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amechi to say “Nigerians produce nothing” on programme where people can view worldwide.
“Nigerians want Baro Port and I constructed it for them that’s all.” The group quoted Amaechi.
“The Minister is practically discouraging the efforts of the Federal Government on Sea Ports comparing it with train transportation which according to him is faster and more secured,” the group further said.
The National Coordinator, Alhaji Nuhu Sani Lere lamented that Mr. Rotimi Amechi does not in anyway deserve to setve a day as a minister of transportation because of his incompetence in managing huge economic potentials in the transport sector.
He viewed Amaechi’s comment as jeopardy to the government that pays his bills and gave him the opportunity to serve as a two-term minister.
