The National Universities Commission (NUC), has granted full accreditation status and restored the Medicine & Surgery programme of Abia State University (ABSU), which was denied in 2021.
In conveying the result of the seven (7) programmes presented by the University at the November/December, 2022 accreditation exercise to the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, the Commission announced the results as follows:
1. Medicine & Surgery – Full
2. Nursing Science – Full
3. Optometry – Full
4. Biochemistry – Full
5. French – Full
6. Sociology – Full
7. Business Education – Full
The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu appreciated the uncommon moral and financial support of the education-friendly Executive Governor and Visitor to Abia State University, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, in achieving this feat, describing him as a consummate academic, cerebral administor and scholar-in-governance.
The contributions of the Governing Council, Management, Senate, Staff and Students of the University were also noted.
Full accreditation status is tenable for five (5) years.
