Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has assured the people of Abia State that the first 100 days of his second tenure in office will witness massive road construction across the state to consolidate on the gains made in his first tenure.
In furtherance of this, the Governor has approved the immediate release of the sum of 6 Billion Naira to contractors handling major road projects across the state to achieve the completion of at least 75% of the pending road projects within the first 100 days, as well as enable the flag off of three brand new road projects.
The sum of 1 Billion Naira has been released to the contractor handling the Osisioma Flyover Project and work will resume there in days. Governor Ikpeazu assured of his commitment to the completion of the project in the next couple of months.
The other roads that will witness massive construction work from this week include the UMUEZE – ABSUTH – UDEAGBALA ROAD which will see the immediate completion and asphalting of 2 kilometers of the road from the Aba Owerri Road Junction. The Abia State University Teaching Hospital is also located along this road.
Aba Owerri Road from the Osisioma Junction is also on the list of roads to be dealt with within this same period of 100 days, as well as the entire stretch of Osusu Road which will be completed within this period.
Eziukwu Road through Milverton Avenue will see the completion and asphalting of an initial 2 kilometers while work will be intensified on Ururuka Road.
Another sum of One Billion Naira has been released to the contractor handling the Obikabia to Obikabia Road project which cuts across three local government areas and is expected to be completed up to the Umuene Junction from Obikabia Junction at Ogbor Hill, as well as the part from Umuikea Junction to Omoba.
Another road in Aba which will see massive construction work is the Emelogu Road Project off Opobo Junction.
Dualization will commence from Opobo Junction terminating at Emelogu Junction with a detour from the Junction where asphalting will be done on the entire stretch of Emelogu all the way down to the Waterside Second Bridge, popularly known as Orji Uzor Bridge.
In Umuahia, the State Capital, funds have been released to Arab Contractors for the Aba Road Project. They will initially complete the first phase which covers the distance from the Railway Crossing down to the Golden Guinea Breweries area, while the Phase Two which starts from The Railway Crossing through Afo Ibeji all the way down to the Express Junction will be flagged off immediately after the first phase is completed.
In addition to the above, three new road projects will be flagged off within this same period. They are –
1. Ohanku Road Aba
2. Umuopara Ring Road, Umuahia South LGA
3. Ohafia Township Roads
In addition too, a total of 1000 units of street lights will be mounted and energized at different strategic roads in Aba and Umuahia within this period.
This period will also witness the resumption of Urban Renewal Initiatives with emphasis on construction of pavements of residential frontages to prevent the accumulation of sand especially where there are drainages.
Governor Ikpeazu assures the people of Abia State that he is totally committed to the renewal of basic infrastructure in the state and pleaded with our people to cooperate with the contractors to ensure that they meet the deadlines.
