The Abia State governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has given a new directives to the residents of Abia State following the end of the 14 days lockdown over COVID-19.
It should be recall that the governor had issued a 14 days lockdown which he has extended to Friday, 17th April, 2020. A measure to stop the spread of the coronavirus even as the State is yet to record one single case.
The new directives which mandated the members of the public to wear an authentic face masks while going out was signed by Mr. Ikpeazu, inline with the powers conferred on him by paragraph 15(2) of the Abia state Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020.
“Starting from 15th of April, 2020, All residents of Abia State and those visiting and or passing through Abia State shall wear authentic face masks in all public places such as markets, petrol stations, shops, shopping malls, event centers, bars, hotels, places of worship, educational institutions, prisons, offices etc”, Governor Ikpeazu said.
According to him, this measure will help to protect people from contracting the virus and also help stop the spread.

He however, mandated all occupiers of premises where members of the public visit for commercial, ceremonial, religious, charity, and or educational purposes to provide hand sanitizers and or running water with soap to enable visitors to these places sanitize and or wash their hands before entering the premises.
But statement by the World Health Orgnisation, WHO, says otherwise. In facts, the organisation advised the public not to wear mask if not sick from Coronavirus, the statement only tell those who has the symptoms and those who are looking after the sick patients to wear mask.

WHO’s statement made it clear that wearing mask may not offer %100 percent protection to people from contracting the disease rather, social distancing and constant washing of hands with soap and water will do the job.
While the governor has extended the restriction to 17th April, the Abia State government through the Commissioner For Environment led by Dr Solomon Ogunji, today, performed a fumigation exercise on public places in Aba, including markets, LGA secretariats, streets and parks.
The exercise was launched in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, yesterday.

We have it on good authority that what escalated the Italian tragidy was the massive wearing of masks; albeit not knowing system of using it. Masks are to be won one within a time and be disposed. Where is the massive supply to the masses? How much is mask sold right now? And what about availability? As a solution, let’s continue with social distancing, washing of hands, self control in sneezing. Otherwise,we go for further lockdown.
Web have it on good authority that what escalated the Italian tragidy was the massive wearing of masks; albeit not knowing the system of wearing it. Mask is to be won one within short time, otherwise, the dirt accumulated on it will regurgitate into one’s system, thereby causing what it’s meant to prevent. Or has the state provided massive quantum of it. How much is one mask sold? Can the citizens afford it at this point in time? One would rather suggest that we make do with hand washing, sneezing control, social distancing and random temperature measurements at strategic locations, etc. Otherwise, another lockdown till end month.
