The leadership of Ohanaeze Youth Council led by comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, has condemned vehemently the recent gruesome killing of traders and cattle at Omumauzo Aba Cattle Market, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
Joining it’s voice with that of notable Igbo leaders prominent among whom is Chief Anyim Pius Anyim the former Secretary of the government of the federation, the Council, on Monday 21st February 2022, in Umuahia charged the Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu to produce perpetrators of the evil act within in a space of 7-days.
“OYC Insists that the Governor of Abia State must arrested those responsible for the sacrilegious act within 7 Days or face massive resistance and civil disobedience in Abia State.”
Embittered Igboayaka described the gory incident as unfortunate and a ploy by “some faceless and ungodly persons whose main objective is to keep maiming the precious lives of hardworking and innocent Nigerians.
The youth body reiterated their relentless commitment towards building bridges of peace, adding, “and would reach out to various regional youth groups especially those in northern Nigeria to further cement relationships that would promote better understanding of the security challenges and concerns in Nigeria”.
Continuing, Igboayaka said: “I’m appealing passionately to all Nigerians and the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) to please work with us and other relevant Igbo leaders and the security agencies to get to the root of this matter by fishing out the perpetrators of this crime whose intension is to knock the heads of the North and the East together and possibly repeat the 1963-1970 unfortunate Nigerian civil war.”
Earlier, while speaking, Igboaaka advised Nigerians not fall for such tricks, as he called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Usman Alkali Baba to expedite actions on the ugly situation and present to Nigerians know those responsible for this crime.
Furthermore, Igboayaka described the current state of insecurity as a national issue, stating that there is no region as welcoming and peaceful as the south east that understands the importance of security of lives, businesses and property.
He, however, regrets that the peace in the south east is being impeded by unidentified non state actors whose objective, he stressed was clear “and probably aimed at destabilising Nigeria.”
Fielding questions from newsmen , Igboayaka warned those using IPOB to perpetuate crime in Alaigbo to be ready to contend with Ndigbo henceforth, pointing out that “it’s clear that sponsored gangsters are working hard to blackmail IPOB to cause a tribal war in Nigeria.
Adding, he said: “there are series of cases where criminals outside the Southeast came to commit this kind of crime and make it look like it’s IPOB, even shouting IPOB/ ESN while carrying out their conspiracy”, he wailed.
Comrd. Igboayaka maintained that the country was generally unsafe recounting that people of various tribes are being killed innocently in various parts of the country and appealed that no region should react against each other as that, he insisted, would entail making criminals triumphant in the course.
Recounting on Boko Haram insurgency, Igboayaka stated that: “some Nigerians misunderstood the group at the initial stage when they killed christians but later had a different understanding when the atrocities of the group became indiscriminate.
“With the rising insecurity in our dear nation, the police and other security agencies must begin to take the issue of sharing intelligence very seriously and guarantee the security of lives and property of all Nigerians irrespective of where they live and do their legitimate businesses.
“It’s truism that state governors are the chief security officers of their States, therefore, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu should rise up to his official responsibility and provide the perpetuators of crimes and bring them to justice.
