Ahead of the Saturday Aba North/South Federal Constituency bye-election, the police high command has said raids on hotels in Aba and environs will commence of Thursday following intelligence report that imported hoodlums have been lodged in unnamed hotels to cause mayhem on the election day.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba had in interaction with correspondents on Tuesday in Abuja warned that any attempt to cause mayhem in the state or anywhere else in country by suspected hoodlums will be resisted.
According to the police image maker, a delegation of police Tactical Squad led CSP Idowu Kayode has been dispatched to support the efforts of the men of the state command.
While stating that the exercise is not targeted at intimidating residents, he added that a repeat of what took place recently in Ekiti where three electorate were shot dead and others injured by armed hoodlums will not be allowed to take place in Aba.
Our correspondent gathered that Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa local government and Aba have been identified as flash points.
He also appealed to hotel owners in Aba to accord the force the needed support and understanding in efforts to keep the state and residents safe.
The team of police Tactical Squad is expected to arrive Aba on Wednesday.
A group Vanguard For Good Governance had in a statement issued on Monday by its Abia state chairman, Nnaemeka Ubani alleged that the PDP in Abia State had imported thugs from Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo and Akwa Ibom to intimidate and harass voters on Saturday.

The Aba North/South Federal Constituency seat became vacant following the death of the former occupant, Hon. Ossy Prestige who passed on on a Germany hospital earlier in the year.
The Saturday day election with have a former Chief of Staff in the state, Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu of the APC slog it out with the PDP’s Chimaobi Ebisike and the APGA’s Destiny Akara Nwagwu.
