Ahead of 2023 APC presidential primary, a political think tank group known North East Stakeholders for Peace and Development (NESPEN), has resolved to support the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to emerge as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 presidential election.

The group comprising political leaders from the zone, technocrats, scholars, clerics, royal fathers in conjunction with other community associations in the zone such as North East Peace Foundation, NEPF, Arewa Summit International, ASI, Arewa Youth Peace Initiative, AYPI, said the decision to unite politically and adopt Ahmad Lawan ahead of the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, became imperative because lack of political unity had previously cost the zone so much that it was said to be “politically disunited and torn apart”.

The group in a statement signed by Dr Bashir Lamido, Director General of Arewa Summit International, ASI, and Comrade Yakubu Arigu Muhd, Director General, Arewa Youth Peace Initiative, AYPI, among others, the group were confident that Lawan would succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.

The group appealed to delegates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to vote for Lawan during the primaries of the party to consolidate on the gains made by the Buhari administration.

“We appeal to you as delegates in all good conscience to decide and define the future for Nigerians by voting to ensure that the Senate President Ahmad Lawan emerges as the APC presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.”

According to the group, party members and delegates to APC’s forthcoming presidential primaries are responsible for ensuring that Nigeria is returned to the path of greatness.

“The APC will embark on its presidential primary election to elect a candidate that is worthy and versatile enough to emerge victorious come 2023 and replicate the giant strides recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari,” the group explained.

“The future, therefore, lies on your shoulders as delegates to our party’s coming presidential primaries.

“It is either we decide a future of economic prosperity, financial re-engineering, human capital development and social inclusivity through massive investment in education, health and youth development in an Ahmad Lawan-led APC government or we define a future of constant blame ringing with tales of woe,” the group further urged the delegates.

While appealing to the delegates to unite and support Lawan, the group commended the National Working Committee of the party for picking the Senate President as its consensus candidate.

The group promised to mobilised millions of Nigerians to vote for the Senate President if he emerges as the candidate of the party.
