As political activities leading to the 2023 general election gather momentum, the governorship ambition of Chief Kalu Idika Okwara to emerge as the next governor of Abia state has gathered some tonic in the southern senatorial district of the state following his endorsement by some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders as well as community leaders from the area.
Apart from expressing support for Idika Okwara, the political stakeholders, who also aired their views on the zoning of the PDP governorship ticket, said it should be zoned to the North based on precedents set since 1999.
Speaking at a political event held in Aba on Tuesday, Chief Mba Onuoha, a leader of the party from Aba South, eulogised Idika Okwara for his steadfastness, commitment and desire to contribute his quota to the growth and development of Abia State.
Onuoha noted that Idika Okwara’s wealth of experience, integrity and capacity was needed to help the party retain Abia state.
“Kalu Idika Okwara is an astute administrator with the capacity and leadership acumen to lead Abia state. I am appealing to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and other leaders of the party to adopt him as the consensus candidate of the party.”
Also, Mrs Nkechi Onubogu from Obingwa local government area, urged the party to consider nominating credible candidates in Abia state.
According to her, “PDP must be careful in her nominations especially with regards to the governorship seat. We must unite across board to retain power in 2023,” she said.
