A House of Representatives aspirant for Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency in Abia State, Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has called on the federal government, state governors and various political parties to avail the youths of 35 percent affirmative action in both elective and appointive positions.
He made the call on Wednesday evening while interacting with Journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
“Having identified the critical role of youths in the emergence of any leader, I strongly urge the political parties and leaders to give youths 35 percent of nominations in the 2023 general elections and subsequently in appointments after the elections.
This will definitely address the many challenges bedeviling this country from insecurity to youth restiveness, unemployment and lack of imagination in leadership circles.
The youths hold the key to the development of this Nation and the continued relegation of the youths to the background can only hold this country back from achieving our desired goals and bringing actualization to hope!
In the same vein, I call on government at all levels to as a matter of urgency proclaim and implement a 35 percent affirmative action for youths inclusion in governance and leadership positions in our country.
We have eminently qualified youths who have proven their mettle in different disciplines in Nigeria and abroad. This country belongs to us and upon our shoulders rests the burden of a generation that must never fail.
The task of nation building is a collective responsibility and we have an all important role to play in driving the development of this country.
Speaking about his political ambition, he had this to say “Power belongs to God and the People. For me, the beauty of politics is participation, there is no winner, no loser as it is a call to service. I am consulting extensively with my people and God willing, I will receive their nod to serve”
