Leaders of Abia North senatorial district have reaffirmed their support for the re-election of Senator Orji Kalu in the 2023 general election.
They made the declaration, yesterday, in a statement issued after a meeting by leaders of associations, non-governmental organisations, groups and political stalwarts at Isuochi, Umunneochi local government area, promising to mobilise grassroots support for the Chief Whip of the Senate across the senatorial district, and pledging to stand by him in sunshine or rain.
In a statement signed by Chief Nnanna Ukaegbu, the loyalists reaffirmed confidence in Kalu’s leadership. They also backed his statement on the issue of Muslim running mate to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Ukaegbu appealed to all the people of Abia North senatorial district to remain calm and united.
According to him, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is not just the representative of Abia North senatorial district, but the entire South-East geo-political zone and beyond.
“Senator Kalu being the Chief Whip of the Senate, is also a party man. The party is supreme. He can’t do otherwise than to support the policies of the party. Let’s not allow our emotions send us to political oblivion like in 2015 when the entire South-East geo-political zone miscalculated, and we are still paying the prize of that political blunder.
“Today, we have over 250 party stalwarts, doctors, teachers, lawyers, traditional rulers and leaders of thoughts gathered here to reaffirm their support and loyalty to the Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu ahead of the general election.
“We shall give him all the necessary support and vote for him overwhelmingly come 2023. We cannot afford to send a wrong person there in 2023. He has performed excellently well to deserve our support and encouragement,” he stated.
