In commemoration of the 2022 International Humanitarian Day with the theme “It Takes a Community”, the Don Lulu Foundation has partnered with the Abia State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Abia State Government on Humanitarian Affairs, NGOs and Social Development, and Vision Africa Radio to hold a humanitarian walk in Umuahia, the capital of Abia state.
The humanitarian walk which held on Friday, began at the BCA road to M.I Okpara Square enroute Bank Road in Umuahia.
The coordinator of Don Lulu Foundation, Miss Imelda Ugo Amadiegwu said this year’s theme reflects what the foundation stands for in making the world a better place and through helping those in need.
The Special Adviser to the Abia State Government on Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Francis Origa said that humanity is the way to go for all members of society especially in Abia state.
He said the walk is aimed at resonating that conscience among members of the society.
The deputy governor of the state Rt. Hon Ude Okochukwu who spoke on behalf of the state government also re-echoed the importance of humanitarianism, saying “we need to be partners in progress towards building a better society for all”.
He added that the Abia state government under the leadership of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu “has given a human face to government and is committed to ensure a better Abia for all”.
Other notable Abians who joined the walk include, Barr. Okey Igwe, member representing Umunneochi State Constituency and deputy governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia state.
The Chief of Staff to Abia State Government, Chief Okey Ahiwe, the honourable commissioner of information Hon. Eze Chikamnayo among other top government functionaries, members of the red cross, the civil society and the general public.
