An Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) on Wednesday along Aba/Umuahia express road shot and killed a commercial vehicle operator conveying food items to Umuahia.
Reports has it that the dead driver whose identity is yet to be ascertained as at press time was carrying food items like rice and tomatoes, on getting to Umuikaa junction near the old toll gate he entered into an hot argument with the NSCDC officer at the checking point who demanded for bribe before he could be allowed to pass which he refused and the officer demanded for his car keys in an attempt to impound it which the driver also refused, according to eye witness account this is said to have angered the officer who now began to drag for the keys with him.

The Officer was said to have engaged his riffle, aimed it at the driver and demanded to shoot him if he refuses to hand over the keys to him, the driver a middle aged man insisted and was demanding to know what his offences were when the trigger happy NSCDC officer shot him and in an attempt to escape mob action ran into the police station near Umuikaa junction.
However, attempts by TheNewsGazette to get the NSCDC commandant to confirm the incident failed as all calls put through his telephone was not answered.
Also, the Abia State commissioner for information Chief John Okiyi kalu, told TheNewsGazette that he is not aware of such an incident but directed them to the ministry of Homeland Securities.
Chief Dan Okoli’ the commissioner for Homeland Securities was not on hand to take calls as he is said to be in a meeting but the SSA to Governor on Homeland Securities Mr. Chigozie Ubani’ confirmed the incident but said he is yet to get the details and at such will not comment on it until all the details are available to him.
