Seven months after being flagged-off, the contractors of the ultra modern Osisioma flyover has been able to erect one pillar out of the 16 mega pillars.
According to an official report, “The flyover will rest on a total number of 16 mega pillars. Each pillar, which will be formed by the metal and civil works will carry 10 piles of 25 meters each buried underground.
The report also added that the flyover will be constructed into four lanes, two on either side.
ABACITYBLOG recall that the construction of the flyover, situated at Osisioma junction was flagged-off on January 20th, 2017, by the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The contract was awarded to a Chinese construction firm, China Zhonghao Nigeria.
Now our question is, while it takes seven months to stand one pillar, how many months will it take to complete the overall structure?
Well, the answer is already at hand. According to one of the key workers on the site who spoke to our correspondent under condition of anonymity, the flyover is not going to be ready, even by 2018.
When asked if the flyover will be ready this year, the man said; “This year? No! How many months remain for this year to elapse?
According to him, “The flyover might not be ready next year, 2018.
When asked why, because while flagging off the flyover, it was revealed that the State government has earmarked funds for the structure;
The man said; “We are on a speed of snail because that is the way I heard the government want the work to be going.
Although, a report from the man might not be official, but when our correspondent visited the site, they were only a few workers around, but no work was going on.
The source further stated that they are on a 2 week break, but will resume soon.
