In celebration of its 10th years anniversary, Jumia, a Pan-African technology company built around a marketplace, logistics and payment service in partnership with an online education platform, UNICAF, has unveiled $1 Million worth of Scholarships to Students affected by strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
The scholarship portal which opens today, will be closing in 30 days time, according to a statement released by the African E-commerce giant.
ASUU strike is in its eight month, an action embarked on by public university lecturers across the country.
ASUU and the Buhari-led government have been at loggerheads over poor funding of universities and the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, a platform on which the government said all lecturers must be registered or they would not be paid salaries.
The disagreement between both parties has led to the closure of all government universities for the last eight months. However, ASUU had earlier this week hinted that they may call off strike anytime soon.
Jumia’s $1 Million worth of Scholarships to Students affected by the University Strike across Nigeria comes as the E-commerce giant is celebrating their 10th years anniversary.
