The Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) is the professional accounting body charged with the regulation of accountancy profession in Ghana. Its members work in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy, including public services, accountancy firms, industry, and education as well as other public and private sector organizations where funds need to be effectively and efficiently managed. Many of ICAG’s members work in other jurisdictions with national and international organizations. Given that its members are the only people recognized under the Companies Code 1963 for the purpose of publicly practicing accounting in Ghana, ICAG’s professional qualification is the foundation for a career in accounting in Ghana.

ICAG Exams
ICAG offers examinations for two main programmes, namely:
- Chartered Accountant (CA) Professional programme
- Accounting Technician Scheme, West Africa (ATSWA) programme held for students within the sub-region.
The scope of the examination includes the technical knowledge and skills regular and prospective students of the accountancy profession are expected to possess.
ICAG Exams Registration 2023
To register as a student and apply for exemptions, applicants must obtain registration and exemption forms from ICAG Secretariat or the website. Completed forms should be returned to the Secretariat together with registration fee of GH¢120 .00 and subscription of GH¢120.00. Applicants who qualify for admissions and exemptions would be required to pay the applicable registration and exemption fees. An applicant must be at least 16 years and possess any of the following:
ICAG Requirements
SSSCE/GBCE/DBS holders – six (6) passes (A-D) including English and Mathematics. WASSCE holders six (6) credits including and English and Mathematics, any other qualification acceptable to the Institute.
STUDENTS REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
(a) Submission of Application in Person
- Photocopy of any birth identity (passport, national ID, birth certificate, NHIS ID, etc.)
- 3 passport size photographs
- Original transcript for graduates
- Original and photocopy of educational certificate(s)
(b) Submission of Application by Post
- Photocopy of any birth identity (passport, national ID, birth certificate, NHIS ID, etc.)
- 3 passport size photographs
- Original transcript for graduates
- Photocopy of educational certificate(s) must be CERTIFIED
ICAG Form and Fees
PAYMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION AS A CA STUDENT
1. Payments can be made into any of the following banks:

The form should be accompanied with a pay-in-slip as evidence of payment. Registration fee GH¢120.00 and Annual subscription GH¢120.00. Account name: The Institute of Chartered Accountants – Ghana.
2. Bank payment instructions
Please provide the following information to the bank when making payment to The Institute of Chartered Accountants – Ghana (ICAG):
- Name in full
- Student Registration Number (SRN)
- Purpose of payment should be stated on the pay-in-slip
ICAG Exams General Instruction
- Students would be required to complete and submit an examination form prior to the examination date.
- Students would receive an authority to sit confirming receipt of examination form.
- Approval forms (also called admission forms) would be sent to eligible candidates and would include location of the examination centres and their examination index numbers.
- Students without proper identification would be referred to the examination supervisor to check their eligibility against the master list.
- Students would be expected to indicate only their student number on their answer booklet for the purposes ofanonymity.
- Students would be required to enter the examination room 30 minutes before the start of the examination.
- Late entry would be up to the first 30 minutes after the examination has commenced.
- Exit and re-entry of examination room is permissible only in the case of emergencies or official excused exits such as rest room visits for which they would be accompanied.
- Candidates would be required to sign-out and surrender examination material before they leave to room, even if they intend to return.
- They would be required to sign-in before their materials are re-issued to them.
ICAG Exams Registration Deadline
Examinations are held in May and November each year for CA Professional and March and September for ATSWA. Candidates are required to apply to sit an examination at least two (2) months prior to the date of the examination. Exams registration opens in February for May diet and August for November diet.
