As 2019 general elections is fast approaching, the people of Southeast region is yet to decide which presidential candidate they will give their vote.
According to Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzo, the National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, the region has not taken any stand on whether to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or Abubakar Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as president next year.
He reminded President Muhammadu Buhari his pledge on reactivation of the famous Enugu Coal Mine, a promise which he made in 2015 while soliciting votes from the Igbo.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Abakaliki, yesterday, Mazi Isiguzo said; “In 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari was seeking our votes, he did promise us that he would reactivate the Enugu Coal Mine but till date the place is moribund.
“Enugu Coal Mine which employed over a thousand workers went moribund in the seventies”.
“And on who to vote in as our president come 2019, I want to state here categorically that we are yet to take a stand,” he stressed.
Isiguzo, who condemned the slow pace at which contractors were handling the ongoing rehabilitation of some federal roads in the region, noted that the delay had claimed many lives.
“I must tell you that the people of the South East region are happy with President Buhari’s ingenuity particularly in the area of road rehabilitation like the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Okigwe and Port Harcourt highways.
“So we are using this opportunity to ask the contractors to speed up because Christmas season is just around the corner,” he added.
