Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC

Several times, Aba residents have complained over outrageous bill imposed on them by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC.

The company who over-took charge of electricity distribution in Abia and its neighbouring states have literally turned to thorn in the flesh of its customers. Ripping off its customers for a service not rendered.

EEDC, owned by Sir Emeka Ofor, knowing fully well that Aba is an industrial hub and commercial city has used the opportunity in milking the customers dry. In Aba, hardly you saw an area that enjoys electricity up to 5/hrs per day.

This situation has continued to generate a lot of frustration to the customers, especially those who need electricity to engineer their various businesses. Despite petitions and complaint sent to the state government, nothing has been done and hopes seems to be dashed as both parties are like accomplices.

Recently, a resident of Aba, Mildred Onyinye, sent us a receipt of her September/October 2018, electricity payment, which runs into thousands of Naira. According to her, EEDC now sees them as unmetered customers who are the real potential customers.

She said; “They have tagged us unmetered customers.. they have a target… they give the highest estimated bills to customers that have no meter and estimation of N500 to those that have meter”.

Judging by the payment receipt sent to ABACITY BLOG, it’s obvious that the Unit Price is the same while VAT price fluctuate every month.

Check the receipt below:

August and October unit price was the same (N34.28) while VAT price is not the same (N887.85 and N1,047.28) – Although, in a normal operation, this might be tagged as month the usage was high.

Is this not a daylight robbery? According to Onyinye, they have complained about the company given them meter, but EEDC is yet to fulfil their request, rather they keep on billing them outrageously every month.
