The quest to get Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the Eastern Nigeria off the hook of kidnappers and criminals recorded another success yesterday at the popular water-side bridge along Aba/Ikot-Ekpene Highway as soldiers on patrol arrested 3 man kidnapping gang and rescued a victim.

The incident which took place on Sunday afternoon/evening according to an eyewitness attracted multitude of residents around the Ogbor-Hill axis of Aba ranging from Umuoba Road and River Layout.

The three man gang were said to be returning from a kidnapping successful mission inside Aba Metropolis and were headed towards Obingwa axis when they suddenly met few soldiers who do not actually used to stay at the bridge as usual.

Unprepared to meet the soldiers, the gang’s situation became more helpless following a heavy gridlock at the ever busy road. The kidnappers literally found themselves in between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Another source told naijawatchdog that the soldiers ordered the three men to come down and demanded that their boot be opened. Knowing that they were in a big mess, the men were said to try all possible means to convince the soldiers that they were genuine friends who went for Sunday partying.

The source said that the soldiers who were few in number suspected foul play and called for re-enforcement and to the consternation of the three kidnapping gang, the whole bridge was flooded with team of soldiers who forcefully brought them out of the car.

With mammoth crowed watching the movie of their lives, the soldiers searched the car, brought out some guns and also discovered that they had a man tied inside their boot.

The source said that on sighting that they were not armed robbers, but rather kidnappers, a soldier pulled a trigger and shot one of the gang members in his hand as the three of them were taken in the army van towards a nearby military base.
