Almost all the land owners residing at Ahuruonye Street, Nwaogu Street, Mathew Avenue and Railway Avenue all in Aba South LGA of Abia State – has been killed by the flood.
In an interview covered by ABACITYBLOG, an elderly woman, Mrs. Ezinne Angelina Onyemauche told our reporter how the flood started and how they have cried out to the State government to come to their aide but they’re yet to see government attention.
The woman who said she is the only elderly person living in the area, narrated how the flood destroyed the houses around the area and how the tenants and landowners abandoned their properties.
She added that the flood killed almost half of the landowners who insisted to stay.
Corroborating the story, a resident, Pastor Chisom Oriaku, said despite their cries to the state government to come to their aides, nothing seems to happen.
He added that they have drawn the attention of the Abia State Environmental and Protection Agency (ASEPA) and the Health Ministry to the deplorable area, but are yet to get a positive response.
They use the opportunity to appeal to the state government to assist them in controlling the flood before the rainy season.
