Following our reports on Transportation Company that Channeled Sewage Into Public Drainage in Aba, ABACITYBLOG has learnt that two workers of the company have been arrested by the Abia State Ministry Of Health and Environment.
The arrested workers has been charged to court, our correspondent gathered.
Recall that ABACITYBLOG had few days ago reported a case of a transport company, Junifon Nigeria Limited which operate a government approved private Motor Park located at number 1/3 Asa Road, Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State, which channeled the sewage pipe of their public toilet that carries out both faeces and urine into the public drainage system.
Our correspondent further discovered that the company, which runs two public toilets, masterfully channeled their sewage from a pipe inside the two toilets into a drainage that was designed to carry out storm water just to prevent their septic tank from being filled up.
Before our previous reports, Mr. Michael David, a staff at Environmental Health Department took our reporter round the toilet facilities, he narrated how the company is polluting the environment.
When contacted for further information, the Director Environmental Health, Aba South LGA, Mrs. Onyinyechi Nwaigwe said that she sealed the public toilet at Junifon Motors Nigeria Limited just two weeks ago over the same offense, but was surprised that after they acted as though they had complied with the law, they have made matters worse by engaging in further environmental pollution.
“Just two week ago, I sealed that premises and after they must have done what is expected of them by correcting their channels, I reopened it through the court. Could you believe that just this morning, the thing is even worse than we met it then? They have opened the place I asked them to seal, and also connected another pipe that is flushing all their waste to public domain just to keep his septic tank perpetually empty.
“A premises I sealed just two weeks ago, has already committed another gravious offense on the same issue. We have decided that there will be no notice to be served to them again; we will use police to arrest the manager. He will either sign undertaking never to repeat that again or we close down that business.”
However, the two arrested staff of the company has been charged to court, to be arraigned soon.
