Detectives attached to Area D Command in Lagos yesterday rescued a young man who was allegedly chained for over a year by his grandmother. The victim, Bolaji Sholola, was said to have been rescued at number 18, Damigoro Street, Mushin.
New Telegraph report that policemen acted on a tip-off from some residents of the community who noticed the man in chains.
It was learnt that 85-year-old grandmother told the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who was at the house, that she chained the victim because he was mentally unstable.
The woman was said to have told the police that she chained the victim so that he would not to go astray and attack residents.
She added that it was also to enable her to take proper care of Sholola. The victim was said to have been taken to the Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, for prompt medical attention by the Area D Police Commander.
When contacted for confirmation, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, promised to get back to our correspondent.
However, Famous-Cole refused to speak on the issue despite several calls and text messages sent to his mobile line before going to press.
